Saw something in the sky? Put it on the record.
Saves time, place and direction.
My reports
Reports you made on this phone. Shared ones are also on the public record.
A free public record of what people see in the sky, with the photos and video to back it up.
Every report is saved with its time, place and direction, then checked against what was known to be up there at that moment. Some things will have ordinary answers today. Others may only make sense years from now, with better data and fresh eyes.
Together they become a real-time historic record for the world. No hype, no conclusions in advance.
Why Nightglint exists
People see things in the sky every night, and the evidence gets lost in camera rolls and comment threads. Nightglint keeps it, in one place, for good.
Ruling out the ordinary: planes, Starlink, Venus and balloons explain a lot of what people see. We check those in seconds, so what's left gets a real look.
What we check:
- ✈️ Planes in the air right now
- 🛰️ Every satellite, including Starlink and the ISS
- 🪐 The Moon, planets and brightest stars
What's in the sky tonight:
- 🚀 Rocket launches
- 🛰️ Space station and Starlink passes
- ☄️ Fireballs and meteor showers
Not ruled out yet: drones, balloons, lanterns, birds, and planes flying with their transponder off.
Privacy: anonymous. No account. Your spot is always blurred on the public map. Hidden location data is removed from photos.

Terms of Use
What Nightglint is. A free public record of what people see in the sky, kept so anyone can evaluate it now or later. It is free to use, with no accounts, ads or paid features. By using Nightglint you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
Age. You must be at least 13 years old to use Nightglint. If you are under 18, check with a parent or guardian first.
Public means public. When you share a report, its time, area (blurred by about 1 km), nearby town name, direction, answers, note, verdict, photos and video appear on the public wire and map. Anyone can see them, link to them and share them. Don't post anything you want to keep private.
Your content stays yours. You keep ownership of your photos, videos and words. By sharing, you give Nightglint a free, worldwide, non-exclusive license to store, display, copy and distribute them as part of the public record, including in exports for researchers. The license ends when the report is deleted, except for copies others already made. Only share media you took yourself or have the right to share.
Please don't post:
- Anything illegal, threatening, harassing, hateful, sexual, or that promotes violence or self-harm.
- Private information or identifiable private people: faces up close, license plates, home interiors, or anyone's address or contact details.
- Hoaxes presented as real, spam, ads, malware, or content copied from others without permission.
- Footage from restricted or dangerous places, or anything you broke a law to record.
Fair use of the service. Don't try to break, overload, scrape or get around the spam check or limits. To keep things fair, each network can share up to 10 reports, 40 uploads and 30 flags an hour.
Limits. Up to 6 photos (15 MB each) and one video of up to 60 seconds and 100 MB per report. Longer videos stay on your phone; you can pick a 60-second part to share, and still post the full video to X or YouTube yourself.
Flagging and removal. Anyone can flag a post. When 3 different devices flag it, it is hidden automatically while it is reviewed. We may remove any post, at any time, for any reason, including to comply with the law.
Deleting. The phone that posted a report can delete it, along with its photos and video. If you no longer have that phone, email [email protected] with the report link and we'll review it. Copies others already saved or shared can't be pulled back.
Copyright and takedowns. If you believe something on Nightglint infringes your copyright or rights, email [email protected] with: the link to the post, the work you own, your contact details, a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized, a statement that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner, and your signature (typing your full name is fine). We'll remove material that appears to infringe and may block repeat infringers.
Verdicts are estimates. Explanations come from automated comparisons with public aircraft, satellite and astronomy data. They can be wrong. "Unexplained" only means nothing in our data matched; it is not a claim that something is extraordinary.
Third-party links. Share buttons, links and linked posts or videos (X, YouTube, NASA Worldview, Copernicus) open or load other services with their own terms. Only link posts and videos you made or have the right to share; linked content stays on X or YouTube and is governed by their rules. We aren't responsible for them.
No warranty. Nightglint is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. It may change, have errors or stop at any time. It is not for emergencies or safety decisions. If you see an aircraft in danger or an emergency, call your local emergency number.
Limitation of liability. To the fullest extent the law allows, Nightglint and the people who run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, content or profits, arising from your use of the service or from content posted by others. Our total liability for any claim is limited to $100.
Your responsibility. You are responsible for what you post. If your post causes a claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs that result.
Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in New York.
Changes. We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. Using Nightglint after a change means you accept it.

Privacy
The short version. No accounts. No names. No ads, no analytics, no tracking cookies. We don't sell or rent data, ever.
Your location. Your exact position is used on your phone to check the sky. It is never stored on our servers. A shared report only carries a spot blurred by about 1 km, and our server rounds it again to a ~1 km grid before saving it.
Photos. Before anything is saved, the app re-saves each photo without its hidden data (EXIF), which removes GPS location and camera details. Our server rejects photos that still carry it.
Videos. Videos are uploaded as recorded. Many phones store the recording location inside the video file, and we don't remove it (a 60-second part you trim in the app is re-recorded without it). If that matters to you, turn off location for your camera before recording, or share a photo instead.
Links to X and YouTube. You can add up to 3 links to your own posts on X or YouTube videos. The link is shown with your report. To show a preview, our server asks X and YouTube's public preview services for the post text or video title and thumbnail, and serves them from nightglint.com, so your phone doesn't contact X or YouTube just by viewing a report. Only when you tap "Show the post here" or play a video does your browser load it from X (platform.twitter.com) or YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode), and their own privacy policies apply from then on.
UAP videos from around the web. The home page and map show recent videos from a hand-picked list of UAP channels on YouTube. Our server reads YouTube's public channel feeds and serves the titles and thumbnails from nightglint.com. Nothing about you is sent. A video only loads from YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com) when you tap play. These videos are not Nightglint reports.
Where shared reports live. Shared reports are stored in Cloudflare's database, and their photos and videos in Cloudflare's file storage. They stay public until they are deleted or removed.
Anonymous device ID. Your phone makes a random ID so it can delete its own reports and so flags count once per device. Our server stores only a scrambled (salted hash) version of it, never the ID itself.
Spam protection. To apply hourly limits we keep a scrambled (salted hash) form of your network (IP) address. Each entry expires after about two hours and is cleared out regularly. When you share, we use Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-focused bot check, instead of a puzzle captcha.
Your area for "What's in the sky tonight". If you've allowed location, the app uses it on your phone. If not, our server uses Cloudflare's rough, city-level guess from your IP address (rounded to about 10 km) to pick a default area. It isn't stored or shared.
What stays on your phone. Your own reports, full-length videos, settings and the random device ID are kept in your browser's storage until you delete them or clear site data.
Who handles data.
- Cloudflare hosts the site and runs our servers, database, media storage, the Turnstile check and our email forwarding.
- adsb.lol and adsb.fi (live flight data): to check the sky, a position rounded to about 1 km is sent to them, through our server or straight from your browser if our server can't reach them. Nothing is stored.
- CelesTrak supplies satellite orbits. No location is sent. Tonight's passes are worked out on your phone.
- The Space Devs (Launch Library 2) and NASA/JPL CNEOS supply rocket-launch and fireball lists for "What's in the sky tonight". Our server fetches these global lists (if Launch Library 2 is busy, your browser fetches the launch list from it directly, about once an hour). Your location is never sent to them; distances are worked out on your phone.
- OpenStreetMap's Nominatim turns a ~1 km rounded position into a town name.
- OpenFreeMap serves the map tiles (map data from OpenStreetMap). If it can't load, the map uses OpenStreetMap's own tiles.
- Google Fonts serves the app's fonts.
- NASA Worldview, Copernicus, X and YouTube only get involved if you tap their links, share buttons or a linked post or video, and only get what you choose to send. Link previews are fetched by our server, not your phone.
Like any website, these services see your IP address when your browser contacts them, under their own privacy policies.
Email. If you email [email protected], Cloudflare forwards it to our inbox. We use your email only to reply and keep it only as long as needed.
Public posts. Anything you share is public (see the Terms). Delete a report from the phone that posted it to remove it and its media from our servers.
Children. Nightglint is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has posted, email us and we'll remove it.
Your choices and requests. To ask about your data, request removal of a report, or report a privacy problem, email [email protected]. Because there are no accounts, include the report link.
